A History of Booger Swamp

Booger Swamp Rhythm Section was founded in 2011 by Tom Smith with the intent to use real musicians and singers to keep the old songs of the church alive. We had several musicians and vocalists in the beginning and each vocalist would perform two or three songs. Over time God brought us seven individuals with a sincere love for the direction in which the group was headed. Little did we know that God was going to send us a song writer also.

At that time, the group changed direction and started recording. Our first CD, “A New Beginning” would feature five originals and five of the traditional songs of the church with a little “Booger Swamp” swing.

Each CD will always have five originals and five of the old traditional gospel songs or hymns. They are done, as we like to call it, in our “Booger Swamp” style.

We carry fiddle, pedal steel, keyboards, doghouse bass, rhythm guitar, and drums along with three vocalists at all concerts. We are available for live concerts which usually last around and hour and a half. We have no problems working with other groups for a concert. The History Behind The Name "Booger Swamp"

When I started Booger Swamp I was a staff musician at a large church in Yadkinville, NC. Its address was 2200 Booger Swamp Road. The preacher at that time had a radio program on Saturday mornings and would always end it with a  “ Ya’ll come see us tomorrow on Booger Swamp road!”

All the large southern gospel groups that would sing there would always say  “It sure is good to be back on Booger Swamp Road!”

It seemed like great advertising! I know God laid the name on my heart but I never knew he would narrow us down to seven talented people with one being an excellent songwriter. Had no idea our CD’s would be played all over the world!

The history of the road is back in the last century, kids walked the road going to school. Back then there was a swamp at the bottom. Parents, trying to protect their kids, would tell them that there were boogers or the booger man was in there and to not go in.

Dena Wood of Texas loved our music but at first she didn’t like our name. Upon hearing this story  she said not to change our name. This world is a bigger swamp than ever and that God’s children need to listen to the advice of those early parents and to stay out! There’s a bigger booger out there trying to destroy God’s children today!

Now you know the rest of the story! It does get people’s attention and you don’t forget the name! God’s got a sense of humor!

Testimonials

"This afternoon I listened to the A New Beginning CD.  It is the best gospel music I have ever heard!  The a capella at the end of Closer Walk brought tears if was so beautiful.  All the original songs were wonderful, better than most old standards. Sam Fore is really blessed.  I loved the Blood He Shed the most for lyrics and loved Now I'm Coming Home the most for the music which was sweet and easy.  And you are right: I Know Mom's Still Waiting for me is just outstanding.  And Tommy's piano licks were simply astonishingly beautiful. That fellow has a gift."

What a Wonderful Collection of Music

"First off, full disclosure. This is not the type of music I tend to listen to. And boy am I glad I did. The songs are heartfelt, joyful, and obviously genuine. The performances are first rate. The musicianship is stellar. From a recording standpoint I was very impressed. It sounds as if a lot of care went into the quality of the recording. Very spacious, and detail oriented. The voice of Sam Fore is quite moving. No slight on anyone else in the band. I think all of the songs are very good, and am blown away at the overall quality."

“THANK YOU again for the two CDs you gave me yesterday during your visit.  Just as I thought, the song “I Know Mom’s Still Waiting” made me cry.  It is a great song, and so is your rendition of  “Closer Walk With Thee.”  However, I must say my absolute favorite song on the first CD is “He Gives Us What We Need.”  That is such a GREAT song as the message is so beautifully conveyed!"
